Short description of the tour
The Susa Valley and the Val Chisone with its Fenestrelle Fort, are today connected with a widespread network of high-altitude gravel roads.
A true heritage of historical military fortresses, some dating back to the 16th century, connected by over 800 kms of dirt roads, almost all of which are still
practicable, waiting to be discovered by motorcyclists with a series of excursions along dirt tracks and great Alpine roads.
The Assietta Road is one of the most evocative motorbike routes in the Piedmont Alps: an itinerary for an unconventional motorcycling tour, set between Val Chisone and Susa Valley, this mountain pass reaches 2,472 metres above sea level.
Mount Jafferau, with its 2805 metres above sea level, towers over the town of
Bardonecchia in Piedmont.
At the top of the mountain stands the Jafferau fort, a fortification built in the 19th century at an altitude of 2800 metres in an esplanade with no other peaks nearby. The fort, now in ruins, was used for artillery positions and is the second highest fortification in the Cottian Alps.
A route 160 km long characterized by breath-taking beauty all around, ideal for those searching for an extra ordinary route, with three important stages: Colle delle Finestre, Assietta and Jafferau. Lastly, the Col del Sommeiller 3000 metres of excitement along the highest road in Italy to be crossed on two wheels, on the border between Italy and France.
